Does That Make Me a Bad Mother?

So I was listening to the radio this morning and the morning show that we listen to on the way to school had a caller whose mother-in-law used to take a pair of socks, put them in the dryer and sneak into her son's room to lovingly place them on his feet. She did this EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. of his pre-married life.

Now, I make sure that my children always have clean clothes, healthy food on their plate and a nice home to live in. I do not; however, warm socks for them to wear before their wee toesies hit the floor in the morning. Nor do I pamper them much at all. Does this make me a bad mother?

NO! It makes me a good mother who wants to raise independent, outward thinking little people. If one of the kids is getting out of the bath or shower and a load of warm towels just happens to be finishing up in the dryer, I lovingly take them a fresh towel to wrap up in, but that's just about where the line is drawn.

Good gravy, could you imagine how long THAT would take every morning? Warming socks for them? I respond with a big, fat HA HA!

  1. Wow, that's a movie plot waiting to happen! Psycho on the loose because his wife refuses to warm his socks like his mama did.

I'll occasionally go and put my jeans in the dryer to warm them up before I take my jammie pants off but that's me doing it on my own.

Good grief, that gives the word pampering a whole new meaning.

  2. I don't have words. The closest we come in our house is me yelling for one of my kids to grab a bra that was left downstairs to dry. This would never happen in our home. If that makes me a bad mom, lump me into that group.

  3. The part they forgot to mention is that now he has issues in his marriage because his wife thinks he crazy that he expects HER to do that now! heh!

Oh, and was the dude an only child? I'd bet money on it.

Yes, it's a nice thing to do. It's also seriously overboard. Helicopter parenting at it's best. I'll bet the kid didn't even realize how wonderful it was that his mom would do that, because he never knew what cold feet felt like. You know, you don't appreciate the joy unless you've felt the pain?

Obviously I have issues with overprotective parenting.

  4. Oh my stars, that's hilarious! Can you imagine that boy when he grew up and got married? The first morning of his honeymoon..."Uh, honey? Where are my warm socks? What? You didn't warm my socks for me? Let me tell you how my mommie does it..."

I'm still laughing just thinking about it!!

  5. I think that is a bit extreme but my lovely husband still does warm my side of the bed on cold nights. I'm Brazilian after all...
I love the socks in the picture btw.

  6. Well...you probably don't iron their pillowcases, either. Hmmm....bad mom indeed. LOL~~~

Yeah, I'm with you. The fact that they are wearing clean clothes is huge. They are often warm because I don't always have time to fold/hang their school uniforms...they come out of the basket wrinkled. Since "iron" is truly a 4-letter word, I throw them into the dryer to "de-wrinkle" them.....but, I don't throw in the socks!

  8. I cannot even imagine. After awhile, they would expect it and then I would resent I am sure! What a sweet thought, though. :)
