May I Have This Dance?

It's a little dance that we do. We snuggle in for an afternoon nap. I squeeze him in my arms and he giggles and wiggles away. He crawls around the perimeter of the bed peeking over the sides. I pretend to be sleeping. I crack one eye and see a big grin shining at me from under the covers. I yawn a hopefully contagious yawn ... he giggles. I feel a sloppy kiss on my lips. Tastes like peach yogurt. I get another one. Another peek and I see him trying to get comfy. He plays with his toes. He rolls over and pushes his hands under his belly, pokes him bottom up in the air. Still not comfortable. I feel him edging over to me. And he starts his roll ... he folds his whole body into the crook of mine. I don't think that he could wedge himself in any tighter. He rests his soft head on my arm. His breathing gets steady. I cover him up with a blanket that used to be mine when I was a wee one. His sleep is peaceful ... finally, the dance is over.

Oh what a dance. More frenzied than the waltz but less so than the jitterbug. Timeless classic.
