Pass the Pees
You wanna know what pees me off?
Glad you asked.
First of all, I'm not one of those lucky moms. You know the ones who pull up to 2 minutes before the bell rings for school to let out and a kindly grandparent waves them to the front of the line or the ones that show up just as the prime parking spot is being vacated.
Nope, not one of those! I'm of the unlucky variety.
This year, I set the goal for myself to pick the kids up early from school.
Some background: around here, if you don't arrive 15 minutes prior to dismissal, you're screwed and end up waiting 30 minutes extra to pick the kids up! "Da boys" each go to 2 separate schools (don't even get me started on THAT doozy ... a pee for another day). Gavin's school lets out 15 minutes earlier than Silas' school.
The first day of school, I pull up to Gavin's school, patting myself on the back for the 20 minute early arrival time. Cruise by the kindergarten drop-off circle, not a car in sight! High five myself, hit the signal to go around to the 1st grade drop-off and just as I'm about to break into the cabbage patch (yes, you can do it sitting down), I have to slam on the breaks as I hit the line of traffic! You have GOT to be kidding me! Traffic? 20 minutes early and there's already a line formed for pick-up? Damn overachievers!
I'm 20-ish in line (yes I counted), 20 minutes early for pick-up and due for the crappiest mom award. I free the babies from the confines of their carseats, dole out snacks, juice and books and settle in with a magazine.
Now, brace yourselves; here's the part that REALLY pees ya off!
I've drawn a map to illustrate the evilness of it.
Exhibit A shows happy children eagerly waiting to be picked up.
Exhibit B shows the parents that follow the rules and park in line to drive around to pick up happy children from exhibit A.
Exhibit C chows the evil, rule-breaking parents that drive right past the line of law-abiding, good parents; drive to the dead end, turn around and park on the wrong side of the road, park their cars and walk up to get their children.
It's not that I'm an ardent rule-follower. I believe in bending the rules as necessary, but come on people. That's just plain wrong! Way to be great role models. When your kids are in juvie, you'll think back to the time that you parked on the wrong side of the street and walked up to pick up your kids and THEN you'll be sorry!
That REALLY pees me off! Got anything that pees YOU off? Share your story and LINK up!

Oh man I had no idea it is going to be like that by the time Chloe goes to school. That sounds crazy!
I AM LMBO! Our pick up line is equally insane and that is to get all 3 from one school. DS#1 will not go to another school until 8th grade. Anyway, I leave the house at 2:45 to be in line 20 minutes early....I get home about 4:10. We sit and scooch for roughly an hour. When I taught there, we gave our 5th graders recess from 2:00 - 2:20. There was one lady who was ALWAYS IN LINE! (This is when we only had about 350 kids vs. the 900+ that we have today.) DIsmissal for that age didn't start until 3:30. WTHck?
Yeah, I remember those days. The parents are the worst drivers, so I know where those crazy high schoolers get it from!
So funny. I'm going to jump in but it may take me a minute. I have to get busy.
Pick up at school is one of the most stressful parts of my day! I don't want to get there too early and make my other two kiddos miserable waiting...but I don't want to be late either! I completely understand where you are coming from on this!!
I'm sooooo with you girlfriend. I am a stickler for the rules though and it irks me to no end. What's up with dismissal for both kids being so close together and at different schools no less?
I am laughing so hard right now! Ahh, so glad I just walk the students to the door and leave them!!
