Not books, but
MOVIES!
Archie loaded our Netflix queue with the movies of our youth. Ones we thought the boys would love to watch and that we'd enjoy watching with them. We knew that there was a chance that they'd think the movies are lame, but our hope is that they'll love them as much as we do and that we're not quite ready for the nursing home.
We started with The Lost Boys.
I don't remember all of the comedy in the movie, nor how cool the Grandfather is. As an adult, you pick up on those things a bit easier.
There was one moment when Gavin screamed in terror.
Michael was turning into a vampire and fell to the floor, crushing a carton of milk to floor. Well, you know Gavin and his milk. He was terrorized!
As the credits rolled, we waited with bated breath to hear if the boys liked the movie or not. Silas had laughed at all of the funny parts and Gavin seemed to like it.
"Mom, can we watch that again tomorrow night?"
V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!
We're saved from the nursing home just yet!
Stay posted to see what we're serving up next weekend!
Oh, and yes ... The Lost Boys is rated R (the boys will be touting THAT all over school next week), but a 1986 R rating is equal to PG-13 these days.

I kept waiting for Jack Bauer to save everyone from those terrorist vampires, but he never did...that was the worst episode of 24 yet..WTH??
You are the coolest EVER!!!! I can only aspire to such a status.
I loved that movie when I was a kid, but I would have screamed at Gavin's age too (some of us are lightweights and it has nothing to do with the milk LOL!). Too funny. Can't wait to see what you watch with them next week.
I loved loved loved that movie! I was a freakin Corey Haim fanatic, along with my jr. high best friend! Mark has been sharing his favs with our girls (they're really too young for some of it). They just finished watching the Lord of The Rings trilogy.
I just read Archie's comment. HA! HA! HA!
I remember that movie! But must admit, as then, I am not down with vampires / zombie movies. LOL.
You know ... I don't know if I ever did see this movie. I'm a scaredy cat! But I love that you are sharing your faves with your sons ... and that it wasn't something lame!!!
That was one of my favorites when I was younger. I can't believe it was rated R - you're right an R back then is definitely a PG-13 now.
Now, that is some stellar parenting. The Lost Boys is a classic everyone should be exposed to!!
