Another Update

Johnny is in surgery now. It seems that he has broken both of his legs. The Doctors are going to attempt to remove the shrapnel from his femur. His prognosis is still good. My main concern is for his mental health as well. I hope that his parents realize that he may need treatment beyond the physical.

Johnny relayed to his Mom the story of what happened...

It seems that his unit of 6 soldiers was walking along the road and Johnny's roommate tripped a land mine that went off in front of Johnny. When he fell, his legs got tangled up in another wire from another mine. The other soldiers yelled at him not to move and clipped the wire. They dragged him out to safety.

So as bad as it is, it could have been much, much worse. Continued prayers would be appreciated please.

I really wrestled with whether or not I should ask him about what had happened. Part of me thought he would find it intrusive and rude while another part of me thought he might find solace in spilling it to a relative stranger. I am still not sure if I made the right choice...but at any rate, I am glad he is talking. Oh...and the military will provide him with all of the resources he could possibly need in order to heal, physically, emotionally and mentally...they have (sadly) gotten very good at this sort of thing.

I'm so sorry. I will keep him in my prayers.
