280

Our house is about 1680 square feet; with six people in the family, that leaves about 280 square feet per person. We have 3 bedrooms; the 2 biggest dudes share, Archie, Tucker and I share and the Diva has her own room (fitting, no?). It's about time for Tucker to move out and we're stuck between moving him in with the Diva (you do remember her sleep habits, right?) or in with one of the big boys and one of the big boys in with Millie. YIKES ... so not an optimal situation.

Although being a stay-at-home-mom has many, many advantages; one of them is not the luxury of buying a much needed, larger new home, but we can and do dream about the house that we will one day buy. We even have it picked out!

So back to my mysterious phone call. It's not as exciting as you might think. I need to call the community college to set up an appointment to discuss going back to school. It's been eleven years since I was in school! I have an elementary education degree and need to see how many classes I can get credit for to get an associates degree in nursing. The sooner I can get started, the better. My goal is to go back to work when Tucker is in kindergarten. With nursing, I can work some funky shifts and still be home when the kids are home from school. So there you have it, not all that exciting ... but you can imagine how scary it might be.

I'm sure that re-entering the work force won't be a piece of cake either, but with 4 kids to put through college and sensible needs like a bigger home that need to be met, it's a necessary fork in this road of life.

my dreams of being a 'kept' husband are slowly coming true... with your ETSY dress sales and the soon to be had nursing job, I may never have to work again. I'll help you run the etsy store while you at work though.
that is just how much I love you!!

You should skip nursing school and teach at the college...that way the kids get to go for free AND you will have summers off! =)

Your calculations made me wonder, so I did calculations of my own. 270.5 sq ft per person here! LOL.

Awesome on going back to school! Good luck. :)

And I am giggling at Archie.

Nursing?!!? Really? WOW - who knew --
You don't want to go back to teaching?

If we stay in the house we are in now - we will probably put the three girls in one room together.....we will use a bed we saw that was bunk beds with an extra loft bed attached.....might be an idea. no?

I will be praying for you as you go back to school....I'm looking/thinking/praying about all that too...wondering what I should do//wondering what God's plan for me is......
it's a bit maddening and a LOT scarey.
blessings!!!!

I think we will eventually end up with all three boys in one room! A set of bunk beds and a single bed should fit in the room, and that way I can still have a guest room for when company comes over {or it can be a girlie bedroom if we ever need it}! Congrats on the decision to go back to school...good luck!

I'm a stay-at-home mom too and I know I'm going to have to go back to work at some point and I know it is going to be weird and a bit scary. Nursing is a good choice as I know you can probably get the shifts you want because there is a shortage (at least there was a few years back ... I worked for a home care company). Good luck.

Oh come on...you know that teachers get all weekends off, get out by 4, full summers off and that's it. It is SOOOO easy. LOL (said the sarcastic teacher from Texas ;) )

So you don't have plans to return to teaching? I don't want to either...which is funny seeing as we graduated the same year, from the same school, with the same degree! In the meantime keep up your ETSY thing. Maybe it will be so successful you won't have to do anything else. And I get you on the house thing and am so impressed that you guys do it. It'll be a great story to tell later on "Ah, remember the days when we lived in that small house with our 4 kids. It's amazing how far we've come and how much we've achieved." Yay for you!
